Sedation Dentistry in Mississauga

Stay Calm and Relaxed During Treatment

Many patients experience anxiety before and during dental appointments. We provide several sedation options to help you manage anxiety and stay relaxed during your treatment.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous oxide has been used for decades as a dental sedative. It produces a mild, euphoric level of relaxation that wears off quickly after your treatment is completed. Nitrous sedation won't make you drowsy after your appointment. It is often combined with oral sedatives to produce a higher level of sedation for anxious patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Yes — when administered by a trained dentist or sedation professional, sedation dentistry is safe and effective for most patients. We evaluate your medical history, breathing (especially for those with sleep apnea), and other health conditions before recommending any sedative. At Lorne Park Dental, your safety and comfort come first, and we monitor vital signs throughout your visit.

Yes — for patients who experience anxiety, fear, or need more invasive procedures, we offer nitrous oxide, oral and IV sedation during extractions. Under sedation, you may feel relaxed or not conscious of the procedure, yet still safe and monitored. Before your procedure we’ll discuss which sedation level is right for you and guide you through the process every step of the way.

We begin by listening — hearing your fears and concerns. We explain exactly what to expect, step by step, so there are no surprises. We offer calming sedation options like nitrous oxide, oral and I.V. sedation and we maintain a supportive, gentle atmosphere throughout. You’re never rushed, and we encourage you to ask questions at any time. Our goal is for you to feel safe, respected, and comfortable.

It depends on the level of sedation used. With mild sedation (e.g. nitrous oxide), many patients remain alert and remember parts of the procedure. With deeper sedation (oral or IV), some or most memory may be suppressed — many patients report little to no recollection. We’ll discuss what to expect before your appointment so you feel informed and at ease and if other sedation options are required we’ll refer you to one of our partners.

Nitrous oxide wears off quickly once the gas is discontinued, so effects are short-lived. Effects of oral and IV sedation last longer. We’ll give you clear post-procedure care instructions and tell you exactly what to expect.

While nitrous oxide is gentle and leaves your system quickly, it can still affect judgment and motor coordination during and shortly after your treatment. Though many users feel alert soon after, we require you to avoid driving immediately following sedation to ensure your safety and legal responsibility. We’ll ask you to arrange transportation home so you can recover without worry.
